Broken Walls recently returned from a tour with Mission Wounded Knee. Below are some quotes from a newsletter from our good friends, Bruce and Donna Bartelli, Mission Wounded Knee.

They write: “…Our first two evenings encompassed a return to South Dakota State Penitentiary after 2 years. Our first concert was at Lighthouse Prison Fellowship hosted by Chaplains Regan and Becky Beauchamp. Over 163 inmates, Chaplain guests, guards and others were present to hear Broken Walls. Doug (one of the inmates) put on his Lakota regalia and danced his prayers to Jesus during Broken Walls’ concert. He danced for those he loves, his fellow inmates and the Lakota people. It brought great dignity to the whole night as did the Lakota drum group who opened the evening with a couple of honor songs. As Doug and several MKW team members danced their prayers, the Holy Spirit moved through the songs of Broken Walls. Many inmates tried to hold back tears as the Spirit of Adoption brought many to salvation, healing and restoration in Christ…”

“…On Friday, we were hosted by Pastor Steve and Diane Moerman at Cornerstone Prison church located in the main prison facility chapel. The Lakota drum group led off this evening with an Honor song. Both nights, Norma Blacksmith prayed for the outreaches in her Lakota language, and then gave a short testimony and encouragement to the men. The chapel held 200 inmates and Chaplain guests as Broken Walls played and Jonathan brought a message of dignity, respect and honor. Jonathan challenged the men to step up as ‘real warriors’ by taking their place as fathers and husbands, and honoring their wives and children. Many tears came as decisions were made to walk the Holy Road with Jesus. We were honored as Lakota inmate, Shane danced in his regalia honoring Jesus and dancing his prayers. The intercession through the dance was powerful both nights!” – Bruce and Donna Bartelli

Broken Walls and Mission Wounded Knee have just finished a tour of ministering in South Dakota. Jonathan wrote on October 2nd …… “We’ve played 2 maximum security prisons and things went smoothly. The men were deeply moved as we shared how much our Creator loves them and wants only the best for them. I met and prayed for inmates who had recently lost children to suicide. They so deeply appreciate our effort to come to them. I know that hearts were touched. It was awesome to have my mom, Norma Blacksmith with us. She opens every gathering with prayers in Lakota.

We did a concert at the Volunteers of America Youth Facility. The young people who came were different when they left.

We gave a school assembly in Eagle Butte with about 600 students. The youth were greatly impacted. We did a concert in a theater in Pierre two nights ago and almost everybody danced. One native community brought a busload of young people!”

On October 8th, Jonathan shared ……. “We have had an amazing tour into several native communities, prisons, high schools, middle schools, theaters and youth centers. During this time, young people told me “I had given up on life, but since I’ve seen you guys, I am truly encouraged that there is hope.” We have done workshops and have seen both men and women cry as we shared testimonies with passion from our hearts. Paul, a sound tech from Calgary, came with a wonderful helper named Brent, and brought his whole sound system for the tour.”

Thank you for your support in helping to make this happen.

Jonathan had an amazing weekend of ministry in Golden Lake, Petawawa and Logos Land August 6th and 7th.

He spent Saturday evening at the Golden Eagles Gathering Place with our friend, Rev. Pauline Wilcox. It was a great evening and it was a joy to reconnect with old friends.

Sunday morning, he was at the River’s Edge Pentecostal Church in Petawawa with Rev. Craig Smith. There was a great turnout and Jonathan gave a strong message of forgiveness and family.

Later that day, he lead the worship for the opening night of ‘Awake the Nation Holy Spirit’ Tent Meetings that were held at Logos Land for the week of August 7th to the 12th. These meetings were organized and hosted by pastors and leaders from across the Ottawa valley. There were approximately 500 people in attendance and Jonathan opened the evening with the First Nations blessing. Many danced with abandonment and freedom. Once again, there was an opportunity to make new friends and doors were opened into the Ottawa valley to share the vision of Broken Walls. The speaker for the first evening was Chief Kenny Blacksmith. It was great to be with him again and hear him share his vision. Be ready for change.
